The advance party were pleased to be met at the airport by Tim and Sam Touyo together with close friends who had offered to assist. The Sardauna of Borgu called shortly after the teams arrival at the airport and welcomed us to Nigeria.  A short journey to Tim's hotel allowed the advance party team members of Steve, Mark and Viv to freshen up.  No sooner than we had our first coffee we received notification that the canoe and school books sent on Tuesday from London via Metropol, had arrived in Abuja.

We quickly made our way to the British village in Abuja to unload the  three crates containing the canoe 'Goodwill'.  Thanks to the hard work of Alistair Walker the large quantity of education materials had already been unloaded from the lorry prior to our arrival.

Traditional Tea and Toast followed the unloading efforts allowing arrangements to be made for Wednesdays press conference.  We were pleased to hear that Governors from each of the 6 states involved in the expedition had been invited. The conference promises to be an encouraging launch to the expedition in Nigeria.

The advance party could clearly see that Sam Touyo had put in considerable effort in preparation for the Expedition including visiting four states of the six states involved to secure their support for the Richard Lander Expedition. Later that day George Ufot, who represents the Federal Minister for Tourism joined the team. The Minister had been advised by the His Excellency Mr. Atiki Abubakar Vice-President of Nigeria to provide full support of this Anglo-Nigerian expedition of good will.

The advance party then investigated accommodation for themselves and the rest of the team that are due to arrive on Wednesday.  Of the three hotels looked at, the Top Rank Hotel in Area 11 Abuja was the best for value and services.  The team quickly made use of the facilities for relaxation and storage of all the expedition kit so far brought to Nigeria.Sunday will see more preparation for the forthcoming days in Abuja taking place
